It all means something
I was prompted in my reading to think about hell. Such a dire, eternal consequence in response to the brief moment here on earth. Today matters The heaviness of punishment reminds me that this day matters. God says it matters. Despite my misgivings about the day, he says it matters, because hell matters. This moment will shape an eternal outcome. Our days amount to an eternal result. Behind the...

The purpose of Prayer...
estherson: If I am depressed or burdened, I am to blame, not God or anyone else… Spiritual lust causes me to demand an answer from God, instead of seeking God Himself who gives the answer. The purpose of prayer is that we get ahold of God, not of the answer.   -Oswald Chambers

Mm.: tempted to bold the whole thing →
Growing up, Challies felt that Bible reading was an obligation. “I felt that if I was going to be a Christian kid, this is what I had to do.” Throughout the years, his perspective has changed. He now emphasizes that there is no scriptural command that believers must read and study the Bible each day—a realization that freed him to delight in his own study. “I think most Christians are eager to...

“Dear friends, remember that we serve a God whose glory was displayed most brightly through his suffering on the cross.” -Pastor Tae-Hyung Ko This scares me. But I’m gripped by its profundity. Jesus never apologized for giving others a burden (did Jesus apologize at all? hm…). We tend to use nice words to ask of people, like “would you please?” Not with...

It is interesting to compare a legalistic church with a good AA group. In this kind of church, it is culturally unacceptable to have problems; that is called being sinful. In the AA group, it is culturally unacceptable to be perfect; that is called denial. In the former setting, people look better but get worse, and in the latter, they look worse but get better. Certainly there are good churches...

Our sins aren’t newly found. They’re like old rags. It isn’t that God gives us the same old mercy the same old grace to our newly found sins, but in the midst of our  old ways old sins old habits His mercy is new every morning. I’ve had this thought on the basis of theology that God is the creator, the maker of the new.  I, although made in the image of the creator, at...

There is always hope.: An Angel on my Shoulder →
xox-thereisalwayshope-xox: Albert Einstien once said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” The sun gloriously shining through my window when I wake up in the morning, that is a miracle. Having friends and family to spend time…
