I was prompted in my reading to think about hell. Such a dire, eternal consequence in response to the brief moment here on earth.
Today matters
The heaviness of punishment reminds me that this day matters. God says it matters. Despite my misgivings about the day, he says it matters, because hell matters. This moment will shape an eternal outcome.
Our days amount to an eternal result. Behind the terrible punishment is a calling. It calls us to purpose of an unreachable magnitude compared to anything here on earth. It all means something.
